MAPS, PICTURES, MISCELLANEOUS

This page contains various pictures/maps/drawings of the Las Vegas Strip taken throughout the years. Just click on the description and the pictures will open a new window.

People have been asking me about a more current map of the Strip. The Casino Royale has an excellent map for you to see. Please click here to see view that map.

July 1947 road map showing the Strip going towards downtown. The first picture shows Hotel Last Frontier on U.S. Highway 91-466. The second picture shows U.S. Highway 91-466 turning into Fifth Street downtown. The third and fourth pictures show a close-up of the first two pictures.

These two aerial pictures look like they are from the early 1950's showing the Desert Inn and Frontier.

David Shugarman lent me a map dated 1952. Even though the Strip part of the map states 1952, I have a feeling that it was probably issued in very late 1952 or early 1953 as the Sahara (opened 10/7/52) and Sands (opened 12/15/52) are both there. Since the resorts are pretty clear I doubt they are Club Bingo and La Rue's. The letters in blue are the resorts, the numbers in blue are a couple of the resorts that still need to be built just to give you the proper perspective.

1952

Still looking at David Shugarman's map I have highlighted in blue the wash that plagued the building of Caesars Palace and still plagues the Imperial Palace today. Thought to ponder - according to the FBI files I have on Ben Seigel, there was a phone tap in his hotel as he discussed the resort. In 1945, his attorney had asked him why they moved the casino from the original blueprints closer to the street. Siegel and Del Webb both told him that they hit water and couldn't dig deep enough to accommodate a resort the size of the Flamingo. Therefore, they built the main building closer to the street. It appears Siegel was the first to discover the wash.
